In my other thread I was talking about buying a new 920.
I decided against it.

I did find a very good deal on a like new 920.
I should have it by Friday. My Zagg screen protector should be here then too.
I ordered a case also, but the seller cancelled my order because he was out of stock.
So this time I ordered a Trident Aegis case instead.
Not my first choice.
It will be colorful tho. LOL.
Yellow 920 with a red and black case.

Any advice on what to check to make sure this phone is good.
This is my first Windows phone.

First thing to check is Settings -> About - to ensure it's not carrier locked and to see if you have the latest firmware.

After that, it's anybody's guess what could go 'wrong' with the phone.

Not sure how that tells you if it is locked or not. Mine was, originally, on Rogers and was unlocked (now on TELUS) but it still shows Rogers in 'About'.

I was referring to this for update cycle, not for actual unlocked status. Sorry for not making it more clear.

Being unlocked means nothing when it comes to updates.

Here are my thoughts.

I will check that all features on the phone work. The ones that I can check offline or on WiFi.

1) Make sure that it has a clean Emei.

2) Check battery run down time.

3) Check battery temp.

4) Check firmware.

5) Check for physical damage and that condition matches listing.

That's the main things I can think of. I cant think of a way to check the phone.
Hopefully the speaker is good.

Is their any Lumia 920 specific things I should check.
Known items that might fail.
Or anything Windows specific I should check.

Picked my phone up from the post office.
Just as the listing described.
Not a scratch on it.

Everything I checked today worked fine. Wifi, bluetooth ,
Camera, and no battery issues.
The phone doesn't heat up, but I haven't downloaded any games to try on it yet.
Really nice phone. It is running Cyan. So its up to date.

This is my first time trying a Windows phone. I like it.
Really fluid, smooth transitions.
A couple minor things I don't like, are;

Not enough control over screen brightness.
You can either choose auto, high, medium, or low.
We should have 100 percent control to set it at any percentage we want.

Battery meter just doesn't
give enough info. Give me percentages of what each app uses.
They didn't even include screen and OS.

These are just minor gripes. I really like the phone. I tried the camera, but only shot a few pics. It looks very promising.
OS is pretty much common sense.
Seems like a nice design.

Tomorrow I need to setup a Microsoft account and download some apps.
Really looking forward to using my new toy, I mean phone.

So what,it could be from 2010 it doesn't matter if it works just as it should,my lumia 920 feels great, runs very smooth, and for now i don't feel the need to upgrade, hopefully the phone will get windows 10.Yes 1520 and 930 are all better in everything, but for everyday use that difference is not so big,you don't feel it that much, the camera is still pretty good not the best thing out there, but a decent camera that will do the job most of the time.Lumia 920 is still a great device for me anf still deserves the flagship tag.

Which is a good thing, I wonder what it would be to hold the 920 with a case. Its huge as it is.

Also does the case disable wireless charging?
I have a case on mine and the wireless charging is fine. Though I do find it works better without it.

I found the red glossy 920 too slippery without a case and harder to hold. The Casemate Tough Case I use has a grippy feel that makes it easier to hold. I charge mine wirelessly without removing the case. I use a Fatboy charging pillow.

My 920 is in an Otterbox Defender, and it is the ugliest thing in the world. I work in steel construction though, and pretty much have to have it. Just setting my phone on my desk at work and moving it around was scratching it.

I use a flip leather case for my white L920. The phone gets pretty thick, but its safer from shattering its glass. You never know when it will happen.

Btw i hope you have a great time with your new Lumia. Its am awesome device.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to using it.
I really like it so far, just need the time to use the camera more.
Hopefully next month I will get to activate it on a network.
Its still alot of fun using it on WiFi.
