Voice integration in my car

A number of years ago, a number of WP versions back to either 7.0 or 7.1, my WP would voice integrate over BT in my car (2009 Acura-TL), and announce incoming text messages and allow me to speak a reply. I lost that ability with WP8.0 and the HTC 8X, and was hoping to recover it with the 830. But it does not. Anyone know of a way to do this? Is this a function of the BT firmware in my car? Was a great feature to have, and I would love to have it back.

Go to Settings -> Speech, then set "Read aloud incoming text messages" to your desired choice. You'll probably need to check "Allow speech above lock" as well.

I had those settings already checked. Doesn't work in my car, just like it didn't with my 8X.
