UK Nokia 1020 not updating

I bought my daughter a Nokia 1020 last June as she really wanted the Camera. It has managed to get to Cyan but Cortana has not been activated as it has on my other daughters Window Phone (was 520 now 735) and my 1520.
Her phone is set as UK region and it is on a UK network, however having looked into the settings I noticed that the mobile operator is listed as 000-HK which I would guess is not UK. Is this stopping updates working on her phone?
If so how do I get it changed?

Hi,

If your phone is from HK then it will take the update to be released from HK to get the update. Another country ROM on the phone, which means of course wiping the phone completely.

The other option is to use the Developer Preview - Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview, all you need to know!

No you do not need to do anything. She will get the updates if it is realized in HK.
I check for you the below link and Denim for the 1020 is not realized yet in the UK or Hong Kong.

So actual you only need to wait.

And for Cortana UK you need Denim.

Hi

You have two separate questions here :
A) Where's the Denim update?
B) Should I change the ROM of the 1020?

As for A), most 1020 haven't been updated yet. 90% of the variants still have 8.1.0 and Cyan (3051.50009.1424.00XX). Some O2 branded (64 GB models) have received "Denim", but they still have the same firmware, and the OS, even if it's 8.1.1, is not the most recent one. Finnish 1020 has a refreshed Cyan firmware (3051.50009.1447.0001), fixing some freeze bugs, etc. But no 8.1.1 either.

So to put it in a nutshell, we are still waiting for the OS update (8.1.1) and FW update (that .1447.xxxx version). I hope it will start this week, 920/925/1020 are the last older devices not being updated so far.

As for B), you have a Hong Kong country variant. Not necessarily a problem, but you won't have the UK VVM (if your operator supports it) and maybe some LTE instabilities. If it happens, you need to reflash the device with a UK Country Variant (GBIE) ROM.

But to return to your initial question, it's not the 000-HK ROM which is preventing from receiving the update, as most of the 1020 users are still waiting for it.

I was tinkering with a 535 earlier and now I WANT CORTANA. Seems madness that the budget phone has it but the "still near the top of the tree device" doesn't have it......Roll on Denim

If you really can't wait for Cortana, install the preview for developers, you won't get much more with Denim but you'll have Cortana in a heartbeat.

And if you have already preview for developers, you won't get much more from Denim. It's a kind of joke, but it seems to be a true fact, as no further firmware improvements are going to be applied on our devices. Tell me if I'm wrong.

I've considered that guys, but then heard that some people have experienced issues worth their 1020's afterwards and with no easy option of going back to the original OS, I'm not sure that's a route I'd go down as my phone is only a few weeks old.

Does that open up the UK Cortana or the American version do you know??
