re: Pictures & Videos Taken With My Lumia 640

I bought four of the L640 phones recently at low prices. Seeing all of your great pictures that all of you posted is just icing on the Lumia cake :)

I forgot I had taken this... I think I was still on 8.1 and was testing the camera.

My dog has been having... stomach issues I guess. Not really just eating like normal. You kind of have to get her going by "priming the pump."

720p @ 30 fps, indoor lighting at night.

Some shots from today.

This may be over-processed. I shot it with ProShot in HDR +/- 1.7. Then I opened it in Black and applied the Lady Grey 400 (Lomography) filter. It's a gray and blech day here anyway. I like the brooding aspect that the filter brought out.

Here's a Camera360 Sight pic. I think it captured the textures and colors quite nicely. Especially given the heavy overcast and very flat lighting.

One more from Sight. Easter is nearly here and the Easter Bunny's Royal Army is ready to march out. But wait... A rogue ninja bunny has infiltrated the ranks. Can you spot him?

I must be blind, or ignorant, or both. I look at these pictures and then some of the 950xl pictures posted, and for the most part, they look about the same. Not trying to start a war, but it seems just about anything takes pretty good pictures these days if the photographer is worth a dang.

Well... People are "putting their best foot forward" when they post pics here.

Certain situations will leave this camera behind the curve. I get more "throwaways" on 640 than 1520.

From a quick weekend trip to Vegas. I didn't make any adjustments, just pointed and shot. EDIT: Don't know how to rotate the portrait ones. Sorry.

Case in point: I took these last night. Bradford Pear in full blossom.

Camera, forced flash, Rich Capture - no adjustments to lighting.

They look OK on the phone, or at the size this forum presents. But look at them in 100% and... Blurry, grainy, messy. I threw out 2 others so only a 50% retention rate and only passes casual inspection.

Rich Capture time.
Come on, RumoredNow, you call that Rich Capture? ;)

THIS is rich capture...
WP_20160323_18_35_15_Pro(1).jpg

I decided to capture a sunset again. It actually makes it look like the trees are on fire in that one. Sky and clouds have a nice contrast, great colors. It's a little grainy on zoom-in, but it's a distance shot and it's not in prime daylight. Starting to get dark and the grains are starting to show. I suppose I could have put it on a tripod and grabbed a time-exposure, but the clouds were moving too fast, and I wanted to "still" the clouds.

Not bad for a $30 phone. Not bad for any phone, really.

OK, folks: You've got some amazing pictures with your 640s here. Now, can you help me?

I was hoping to use the 640 as my daily driver, but I've actually been really disappointed with the camera in my particular "real world" scenarios. Perhaps I need to learn how to use it, and I'm hoping that you'll teach me.

I was with my children at a karate tournament today and decided to experiment, snapping at the same instant a shot with my 640 in my right hand, my old Galaxy S3 in my left, both auto everything. The results are posted below. The S3's image is much better than the 640's: almost perfect, in fact, with the two contestants in clear focus and the background fuzzy. The 640's image is grainy and noisy. I tried the same experiment several times throughout the morning, always with the same results.

Can the 640 do better than this, or am I going to have to go with something else for my daily usage?

I don't have full size picture from lumia 640, but even at this image i don't see any blur which i see in pic from S3. Yes, blur in picture from S3 because of longer exposure time, almost 2x differens, but it's ussue of automatic adjustment, because of that maybe different colors i think. S3 was flagship, while l640 - budget phone and it takes good photos for it's price. Can i ask you take more photos from S3 and L640 for a comparison in different lights conditions?

While both phones you are comparing have 8MP cameras, the Samsung uses a much more expensive camera sensor size at 1/3", while the Lumia 640 uses a relatively inexpensive sensor size at 1/4". The difference in sensor size is a difference in how much light they can take in and how detailed each pixel can become.

The Samsung device you have has a good camera for an older flagship. The Lumia 640 has an amazing camera for the budget price. If you are wanting something for great photos, however, I'd recommend you invest in a high end phone. The Lumia 950 has a great camera that is difficult to beat, but you will pay a lot more than the $30 the 640 currently sells for at Walmart and Best Buy.

If you need a daily driver with a great camera, you'll have to pay for it. However, if you've only got $30 to spend, you won't even get a better dedicated camera for that price compared to the Lumia 640.

Lumia 640 with some minor post-processing done in Serif PhotoPlus X8.

I'm really blown away by how improved the pictures are coming from my L635.

Here's a few I took this morning. Fun times. I thought it would be nice to have a couple of new pics for my lock screen, and thought I'd try a nature theme to come up with new lock screen pics. All the pics are within 25 yards of my house, so no special trips for these. It's all about taking the ordinary and mundane and trying to spice it up a bit.
