I received my Dual Sim LTE model today but when I put my AT&T SIM card in the device only showed 4G up top. Is this normal? Is there somewhere else to check for LTE? Underneath "bands" it listed the relevant AT&T ones and in device info it says "Lumia 640 XL LTE"

Ducky, I have the same issue, with T-Mobile AND AT&T. I'm a US user with an international version from eBay. Definitely LTE model though. I do get LTE speeds when I test.

Got mine from Expansys as well, I'm with Tmobile and in NYC, the best I've gotten so far using Microsoft's Network Speed Test is 29.5 Mbps download and 10.5 Mpbs upload with the phone showing 4G connection.

Hi All,

My 640 XL Dual Sim is on its way and it will be here tomorrow. It is now readily available on EBay for $249. It is RM-1096 version.

BTW Outside US 4G = LTE. Hence all phones made for outside world will show 4G for LTE speeds.

So is there a definitive answer on this? I see a phone on Expansys and on ebay that list the following:

LTE FDD network: Band 1 (2100 MHz), band 17 (700MHz), Band 2 (1900 MHz), band 20 (800MHz), band 3 (1800 MHz), band 4 (1700/2100 MHz), band 5 (850MHz ), Band 7 (2600 MHz), band 8 (900MHz), band 28 (700 MHz), band 12 (700 MHz)

TD-LTE Network: Band 38 (2570-2620 MHz), band 40 (2300-2400 MHz), band 41 (2555-2575 MHz)

Its calling out the LTE bands, but it is not listed as an LTE phone.

Thanks.

Thanks for the explanation, MUCH appreciated! I also reviewed the manual for the phone (which is a generic manual for WP 8.1 update 2) and it doesn't mention LTE anywhere, which also supports your statement. It just states '4G' for '4G networks' which technically is inclusive of LTE.

I have received my 640 XL dual sim LTE and it works flawlessly on TMobile and AT&T sim. I have a Vodafone India sim which I use as a roaming sin in US and it roams on the TMo and At&T just fine. Tmo LTE speeds are fine. The phone does support the 14 different LTE/4G bands

What does LTE or 4G speed mean? When my phone shows 4G (Tmobile USA in NYC), according to Microsoft's Network Speed Test app, sometimes it can be as fast at 30Mpbs download or crawl to just 2-3 Mpbs, and when it's that slow, it still displays 4G. Sometimes the data connection does switch to H or H+, but most of the time it shows 4G and I get this vast range of download speeds.

It depends on the network quality not the network strength. Sometimes it may happen that network is full but the quality might not be good. Here in Mumbai also, I get full 4G strength but when in hope 20mbps and outside is 27-28mbps

For those in the USA, according to the Wikipedia ( List of LTE networks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) , the LTE bands supported by the big 3 carriers (Verizon, ATT, Tmobile) are 700 MHz, 1700, and 1900, which are not the LTE bands supported by RM-1096 version of the 640 XL ( Microsoft Lumia 640 XL LTE Specifications - Microsoft - Global ), which are 800 MHz, 900, 1800, 2100, and 2600.

My average download speed varies mostly between 6-19, very rarely does it get anywhere close to 30, however, this seems inline with a March 2014 test of LTE speeds in NYC by laptopmag.com : http://blog.laptopmag.com/fastest-4g-nyc which implies that my RM-1096_1001 on Tmobile USA does support LTE.

So I guess the final answer is: the 640 XL LTE Dual SIM may actually be on a 4G LTE network, but will only display '4G' as the network on the top of your screen?

That makes sense. If you use a non-US phone in the US and see 4G you are getting LTE. Thanks to US carrier marketing dolts for corrupting what 4G means.

There are two models from Microsoft in the Dual Sim format. The RM-1065 and RM-1067. If you live in the US and are on AT&T or T-Mobile you need to get the RM-1065. The RM-1067 is 3G or 4G only.

B&H Mobile has both models. The 1065 model is about $50 higher. Received my 1065 today and I am getting full LTE speed. Speedtest shows download speeds over the network at over 13 Mps and upload speeds slightly lower. Specs also show that the 1065 has all the LTE bands in the US.

I started a new thread about this, but that's the first time I'm hearing RM-1065 being dual-SIM. Are you sure about this : under settings -- > extras+info, under "manufacturer name", can you please give the full RM number? And have you verified there are two SIM slots?

Thanks,
WW
