Microsoft has zero control over carriers and how they update. Their attempt at removing fragmentation is what the Preview for Developers program is for. There's nothing they can do about firmware with phones tied to carriers.
The problem is that it's not just phones tied to carriers. Carrier-free country versions aren't even getting the firmware from Microsoft. Microsoft has 100% control over this, and they've failed miserably.

"Fragmentation." Isn't that exactly what MS said would NOT happen with Windows phone, as compared to Android?

it seemed to work in the beginning. But the more low end devices they throw into the field this will not be possible anymore....
my two cents.

I tweeted @lumiahelp and @att this week about this, check out this BS response I got: "Rest assured that we're working with AT&T on a SW update to m the benefits of the Lumia Camera app to their Lumia 830 customers. Right now, Lumia 830 customers can still enjoy the Lumia Camera Classic app which is also available from the Store." Are you kidding me?

Total joke. I've never felt more ripped off by a product in my life. Maybe a year after owning it, I'll actually get the features that were promised at time of sale....

It's not just with Denim. I had this issue with my Canadian-sourced unlocked 520. It was on Black for the longest time until Rogers in Canada released Cyan then it got updated. It was still months later before the US 520s, finally got the Cyan. Now I have bought an RM-985 sold by msoft USA, yet I still have to wait until AT&T get off their collective lazy asses and roll out the full Denim. Then msoft will roll out the RM-985 version too.

Dumb-assed way of promoting the Windows Phone - msoft. I don't want to go back to google-data-theft, but it sure looks like I may have made a dumb decision stay with WP by getting the 830. A PlusTwo may be on my horizon. :)

I don't understand why MS can't just push OS updates like Apple does. It seems like it would be the only viable option. As it is, when you buy a Windows Phone, you'll never know along the line whether or not you will receive any OS update AT ALL. This can't go on like this.

I gave up. Gave my 830 to my mom. Went back to using my 1520 until a new flagship comes out. Absolutely ridiculous on the part of MS and ATT. This phone will be EoL soon and still no update for the firmware it was supposed to ship with.

Can anyone find any of the marketing materials that accompanied ATT's release? I'm a lawyer, I'm going to bring this to a consumer class action specialist. This is ridiculous.

Checked my ATT retail box and all the information in there. There is nothing referring to Denim or Lumia Camera (it does show Nokia Camera). The ATT site lists the Lumia 830 with Windows Phone 8.1 and Cortana, but does not mention Lumia Camera.

Here is info from MS
I'm afraid that there isn't much that can be done because it also shows a link for checking whether Denim is available.

Lumia Denim software update - Microsoft - Global

An all-new experience for your Lumia
Keep your Lumia smartphone performing to its full potential. Introducing the Lumia Denim software update, available across the entire range of Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1. From the world’s most-talked about assistant in Cortana to a new and improved camera experience with Lumia Camera and more, the Denim update offers you the best smartphone experience.
Simply the best in smartphone pictures

For owners of the Lumia 930, 1520 and 830, your camera features just got even better. Lumia Camera now brings you the fastest and most intuitive photo-taking experience on a smartphone ever, and with better-than-ever quality images and video, whether taken in daylight or low-light conditions.

A feature-full camera experience
Capture multiple shots faster than ever before. With Moment Capture, just long press the camera button for incredible 4K video recording at 24 frames-per-second. Then simply go back to review a high quality version of each individual frame to choose the one that looks best. Enable Rich Capture to experience Dynamic Flash and HDR. And shoot first and adjust your camera settings later for the picture-perfect photo.

The Lumia 830 page does not mention Denim. I thought it did in the past but I have no proof. I am not sure if the guy in the video (from the Lumia 830 page) is using Lumia Camera or just the Classical...

They changed all of the information on their materials and websites knowing they never had it ready. The only thing that's "Denim" about the 830 is the name of the firmware. Final features simply never made it to the device, at least in the US. It's not looking promising either.

Phone was announced in September. Released early November. It's now early April and we have not had one update.

If ATT changed the marketing statements after initial launch that would only strengthen the case for consumer fraud. Classic bait and switch.

Can we sue Microsoft as well? Not even their customer service people knew the 830 didn't come with Denim. The unlocked RM-985 variant with NAM ROM still doesn't even have Denim.

Pretty sure we all thought our Lumia 830s were shipping with Denim after watching Microsoft's presentation at IFA 2014

Another week with no Denim update! Can't believe AT&T released Denim for the 1520 back in late February and yet still nothing for the 830. #FAIL

Time to start bugging these people on Twitter on a daily basis!

This is the BS response I just got. I didn't ask them about any other device.

Nice! Poor @LumiaHelp. At least they are replying about it. I'd really love to hear from AT&T and know what they are doing about this. Are they even testing the Denim update or did they give up and waiting for Windows 10 to roll out? If that's the case then no Lumia Camera 5 for many months to come.

I asked Daniel the other day to please look into this issue and see where AT&T is at this point. I'd like to see some official response from someone. At least if the MS Availability in North America page showed "Testing" for the 830 I'd have some hope for an update soon, but it still shows as "Not available yet."
