Phantom Swipes/Presses on Screen after Denim Update on L1520

Is anyone else having an issue with their screen after updating to Denim on the L1520. I keep getting phantom swipes and key presses. Cortana comes up often and I have to turn off the screen and then turn it back on for the screen to actually work. I have tried hard resetting it...both from the Lumia Software Recovery Tool and from the phone itself. It still does the same thing.

Can you verify the phantom swipes by using a diagnostics app that has a utility that shows screen responsiveness to touch? For my L535 (with the notorious seemingly factory-defect-related phantom swipes that is known to Microsoft), I've used Diagnostics Toolset and have observed phantom touches happening on my screen. You should see areas being highlighted where it detects fingers touching the screen even if there aren't. You would also be able to observe the behavior of the phantom touches (is it random, just within a certain area, is there a pattern, etc...).

I don't have a L1520, so I couldn't verify this for you for your device, unfortunately. But I hope the information the app will provide would help.

I'm not yet on denim but I had this problem before, camera focus zooming in and out like crazy, Cortana opening on its own, phantom scrolls and taps. Brought it to care center and they replaced the entire display assembly. For free

Did this eliminate the problems?

Yes, been using it for a month now, no problem at all. I read somewhere that the issue is the consequence when we place our phone in front packet of our pants, bec. the digitizer misalign or something.

Yes - I'm a front pants pocketer and have had phantom digitizer swipes. I read somewhere to simultaneously press the top and the bottom of the screen and that will help realign the hardware contacts. I tried it and it worked; the problem went away.

Since I installed Denim my 1520 seems sluggish. Taking pictures with the default camera app used to be really fast, now it seems like I have to wait to have the picture rendered.

Seems like grabbing/squeezing the phone on the sides, can make this happen, for me. I've had it even on Cyan. Seems like a hardware thing.

How do we find out where the closest care center is ?

How do we find out where the closest care center is ?

This depends on where you are. When my L1020 needed repair, I used more than one means to find the nearest Service Center: Foursquare, Google Maps, Bing Maps, and Microsoft.com. Search for either "Nokia Service Center" or "Microsoft Store" (depending on where you are) and check out the results. You may want to look up their contact number first and then call them up before going to the location indicated in the map - to be sure that the information on the map is correct.

You could also try tweeting to @LumiaHelp and ask where you can find a Service Center near you (you'll need to provide your City Name and country in your tweet). Lastly, you could also send an email to Microsoft... but this would be unnecessary since locating a service center is easier than looking for the appropriate email submission page.

In addition to going around malls in the city, the method above (in the first paragraph) is how I found the nearest Service Center in my country. Experience may vary depending on location.

I'm from Manila, I called first contact support from the number from the "about" section my lumia. From there I asked for the nearest center

Good thing this worked for you. This never worked for me (an answering machine didn't bring me much help) and I live in Manila, too.

Kabayan!

I went through the answering machine options too, before I was able to talk to a contact specialist. Anyway, the main service center is WIS at Kakarong St. in Makati, cor. Metropolitan ave.

In my case, when I followed that advise, the problem became worse 😔

Interesting information, since a representative from Nokia Care (what remains of it at least) told me that official the service center was "Aikontech". However, the main service center is also in Makati.. so it might be the same thing.

Re: Phantom Swipes/Presses on Screen after Denim Update on L1520

I just wanna let you guys know, and I'm sorry to say, that as long as you own a 1520 that problem will NEVER fully go away. It was a design/mechanical (I can't say software because nothing will fix it) flaw that's kinda exclusive to the 1520. I went the 3 of them and no matter what, that problem will rear its head randomly.... Unless u get another phone or have them replace the glass and digitizer completely. So I've decided the good outweigh the bad and ill just wait for the next flagship because regardless I just can't give up the best showcase of windows phone there is.

You're right, its usually caused by the phone being flexed, its fixable, give the forums a search, there was a user who discovered the issue and even fixed it, the best advice is to get the phone a decently sturdy case and make sure you don't do heavy lifting with it in your pocket.

What sturdy cases does anyone recommend to keep it from flexing?
