Why can't I get the ringtones to work, it vibrates only?

I can't get the ringtones to work, it vibrates only,

Is this peculiar to Lumia 535 and should I return phone to store

This may be a basic suggestion, but sometimes the basic ones are the most easiest. Have you tried turning up the ringtone volume and disabling the vibrate option?
