I was thinking about this the other day. The TMO page says it will have WiFi calling. Wonder if part of it is getting that ready - I'm assuming it doesn't do that out of the box. I have no idea if it's even software or firmware (or both) that needs to be added/updated, but I suspect that is part of it.

But yeah, sooner rather than later would be better. :)
Isn't their WiFi thing ready?

Not sure what you mean by WiFi thing, but I'm assuming (and I may be way wrong here) that the phone needs either (or both) a software and firmware update to support WiFi calling, or at least a bit of testing. My other theory is that they're trying to unload as many 635s before dropping the 640.

Too late, Microsoft... You took too long. I'm going with the G4. Maybe I'll be able to give Windows phone a try next time my phone gets old.

Im too close to buy the Expansys Version, but i think is kinda expensive.
So, my dead line is the next 4 to 6 of May, if not Expansys would be my expensive friend.

Of course, minutes after buying that phone will be announced prices on Amazon and in every respectable place online.

I get the frustration but you say that as if Microsoft can force the carriers to start carrying devices on Microsoft's schedule. Blame T-Mobile and AT&T. Not to mention you can buy an unlocked version if you want.

Tmobile would already be selling it if Microsoft would have released it to them. I haven't seen an unlocked one that runs TMO bands at the Microsoft store. I was at one last weekend picking up a new laptop and would have gotten it then. Even the Microsoft website says "Coming Soon".

I have no idea whether MS has to release it to T-Mobile or not, but I have to believe that if T-Mobile said "Can we sell this today?", MS would say yes and that MS isn't the hold up.

Lumia 640 announced March 2nd. Still no US availability.

I wanted to get a Lumia 640 for a family member in June. When it was announced March 2nd I thought for sure there would be US availability by then, 3 months is a pretty long time in the wireless industry after all.

But here we are on May 12th, two and a half months later, and nada. What's the hold up? Will this phone ever release on a US carrier?

Microsoft is losing the business with phones. Waiting so long for one to appear in the market! Ridiculous. People switch to other phones.

I just bought and unlocked/unbranded 640 brand new on eBay for only $201 w/free shipping. Can't beat that. They have 3 left I think, I went with black.

but how do you know that it works in your network (do you have att or tmobile, sprint,...) ?

Cross reference the specs with your carriers operating bands:

Cellular connectivity[SUP]11[/SUP]
  • GSM network: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz
  • GSM max data speed DL: EGPRS 296.0 kbps
  • GSM max data speed UL: EGPRS 236.8 kbps
  • WCDMA network: Band 1 (2100 MHz), Band 2 (1900 MHz), Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz), Band 5 (850 MHz)
  • WCDMA max data speed DL: 42.2 Mbps (Cat 24)
  • WCDMA max data speed UL: 5.76 Mbps (Cat 6)
  • LTE FDD network[SUP]12[/SUP]: Band 17 (700MHz), Band 2 (1900 MHz), Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz), Band 5 (850MHz), Band 7 (2600 MHz), Band 28 (700 MHz), Band 12 (700 MHz)
  • LTE max data speed DL: 150 Mbps (Cat 4)
  • LTE max data speed UL: 50 Mbps (Cat 4)

Personally I will be using mine with an AT&T sim in the US and a Digicel sim in the Caribbean.
