My 635 won't update to latest OS version

I had a L635 GO phone and it was updated to 8.10.14219.341 but I bricked it going to Windows 10 preview. I got a replacement of the same phone and it won't update past 8.10.12397.895 So what can I do to get it updated to the current OS version supported by the device?

Re: My 635 won't update to latest OS version

I can't remember when exactly but within the past month or two. I had been on 10 preview before and reverted back using the recovery tool. The phone went through a number of updates afterwards and stopped at 8.10.14219.341 and now my new phone won't update past 8.10.12397.895

Re: My 635 won't update to latest OS version

AT&T still hasn't released the update for Update 1, Denim, or Update 2 for the GoPhone 635. If you wish to have 8.10.14219.341, that is the version you would get if you enroll in the Developer Preview. Just install that, then you can update back to that point.

That update isn't available for your phone. You probably got it when you jumped onto the Insider Preview, as it automatically brings your phone up to the latest version of Windows Phone 8.1. You can get back to that point by getting back onto the Insider Preview or joining the Developer's Preview.

Oh that's right. Not sure why I totally forgot about being on the developer preview. Thanks for the help

For what it's worth, if you are using an AT&T GoPhone you could technically flash the 8.1, Update 2 software that was released for the post-paid variant. Now, will this have any negative effect on your GoPhone 635? To date I honestly cannot say I have had any issues. The base build of your software will match up to the Lumia 635 post-paid but the Windows Phone Recovery tool will always recognize your device as the GoPhone variant. So, you won't be able to use the Recovery tool to restore your phone. Is this bad? For me, I can just use the Lumia Flash Tools suite of apps and the Windows Phone 8.1 SDK Lite to get my phone back to the original 8.1 Update 2 base that I flashed.

Just throwing my two cents in there.

Also FWIW (not much), today marks one month since ATT released GDR2/Denim for the non-GoPhone 635s.
We return you now to your regularly scheduled program.

Just finished a chat with ATT support. Asked the 635 GoPhone 8.1 GDR2 update question. Verbatim answer follows:

Yes we'll be pushing it out to the 635 GoPhone as well. It'll take some time since we push it out in batches (so we don't overload the server), but you'll definitely get it!

Yay! We should get it by the time everyone else is getting 10! Yeah, uhm... this is why I unbranded my phone and am no longer dependent on AT&T for an update. ;) Loving GDR2 on my GoPhone 635 :D

I guess I'm confused!

In reviewing Microsoft info from the phone (by selecting (Cyan in Extra's + Info), the 635 on AT&T is supposed to be able to receive the update to Denim. I have an unlocked AT&T Nokia 635 on AT&T paying a normal monthly fee, not Go Phone. I received some update about a week ago, thought it was going to be Denim, but it was some stability type update as indicated. When I check Extra's + Info, Cyan is still listed.

Now I know I can install the Win Preview Program update to go to Win 10 and the first update will be Denim, then the other updates, but I was hoping to get it naturally from AT&T.

Any detailed suggestions on best way to proceed.

Please provide the SKU for your 635. The number can be found on the box the phone came in.

HI Dave,

Unfortunately I don't have the box the phone came in to view the SKU number. Was looking for it last night.

Anything else or way to check?

Just discovered this: (first power down phone)

Pop the cover off and the SKU can be found on a sticker along with other #s.

You have a GoPhone. It has not been updated to GDR2/Denim yet. I say "yet" because ATT support told me that these 635s will get the update, but they didn't say when.

So that's why this 635 model comes unlocked because it is a GoPhone, yet the instructions pointed out to insert your previous SIM if you have one into the phone and not initiate a new account?
Where can one find the list that shows a phone as locked/unlocked, etc.?
