Microsoft Lumia 640 XL RM-1096 compared to a Lumia 1520

Hi
I'm an owner of a Lumia 1520 and totally love the phone but really would like to have a Dual SIM phone with the option of swapping out the battery.
My question is will I notice a performance difference with the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL RM-1096 due to the fact it has less RAM, inferior processor, lower resolution screen and a cheaper camera?
Thank you

Yes you'll definitely see a performance drop, not by a big margin but definitely noticeable in day to day tasks. Camera and gaming performance will be definitely noticeable.

When I tried the 640 xl at the ATT store I was pleasantly surprised at how fast it was. Didn't notice any lag at all. If you have an ATT store near you go in and give it a test.

I have the 640 XL. Definitely worth trying. I haven't seen any noticeable difference in day to day tasks from my 1520. And the camera is really, really good. Probably better at Macro shots than the 1520. I am using it as my daily driver now. I will report back with an update in few days..

Re: Microsoft Lumia 640 XL RM-1096 compared to a Lumia 1520

In my opinion a 5.7" phone is just too big for a small resolution like 720p. I already hated that resolution with older Samsung Devices that were bigger in size. I dont doubt that the 640 XL is a good phone for what it costs, but I prefer Full HD resolution in devices over 5" these days. I would rather get the 640 without XL, although I am so used to bigger phones since I first had the Galaxy Note 2, I really dont want to go back. But with 5" i can live with 720p, not with bigger though.

Cheers

Even though resolution is 720p does it make that much difference in day to day use ...

I'm running a Lumia 640 LTE version, and I'm really amazed by this one. Clearly, the 720p on a 5 inch is not so utterly bad, but I had the possibility to test the XL version. It's clearly notable the difference on a 5.7 display. The XL is really good at taking pictures, but imo if it had atleast a snapdragon 410 and more ram would have been a better phone overall. You can give it a try atleast.

It all depends what you prefer or expect. Its subjective, everyone will look at this different. Coming from phones with at least FullHD resolution, and my Note 4 atm even with 2k resolution, you get used to that pretty quick and then, if you see a device with 720p resolution, you notice that pretty fast. I dont like it, but thats just me. ;)

From an entry level, the 640 for sure is an interesting phone. ;)

Came to wp from my 5 years veteran overly modded SG1, 640 entry level, not dissapointed ;;) It's true, it's subjective, after all, it's your choice :)

Having both the 640 XL and 1520, I really do not see a screen resolution difference for day to day use. Its just not there. If you are looking for it, you might find it in pixilation blown up on fonts, but that is really nit picky.Or maybe my eyes are really bad! I haven't seen any lag in screen transition or software function. I am not a gamer, so that is probably another story depending on the game.
But to be clear, the 640 XL is not a flagship by any means, but if you are looking for a phablet at a great price and function without the screen issues or video skip issues of the 1520, and 8.1 Update 2 on board, it is pretty rocking. Or if like me you need something that will carry you until the fall when new flagship 940s arrive, this phone makes a lot sense for the price point.

Re: Microsoft Lumia 640 XL RM-1096 compared to a Lumia 1520

Hardware wise, there really is no question that the Lumia 1520 is the better phone.

I got my uncle Lumia 640 XL and the screen resolution just does not match my 1520.

The processor, camera, RAM etc.

One thing I must say about the Lumia 640 XL however is that "it just works!"

In my hands on time with it, I felt that the device is really well thought out. The feel is better and the OS just seems to be more free of glitches.

Here's hoping the next flagship will be really good

It absolutely is better when it works! But that has been the problem. After 3 verified insurance claim replacement 1520s, and still a problem, moved over to the 640 XL until the fall flagships release.

I doubt the WP Version is different from that from other Lumia devices with the same W8.1 Version. So I doubt there are less glitches you would find in WP itself, and by that I mean the OS and not the Hardware.
