My broken screen won't allow me to access my password

I've broken the screen on my Lumia 820 and can't input my password to access important info on phone, is there any way of unlocking it?

Connect your phone to a PC and use the file explorer to save your data.

No, the only way is to get a new screen. Or if you have a friend with a 820 you can swap the screens so you can unlock the phone. Check a youtube video how to change the screen. (it is not that difficult if you change the touch+LCD)
And also changing the touch screen is not so difficult if you want to repair it by yourself.

If your data is on a SD card you can get the SD card out and place it in a card holder in your PC .

This will not work if you use a PIN. You need to unlock it first.

OK, I thought it would be a solution. I didn't know the PIN is still needed.
