I think we will have a midrange device before next year, or at least I hope so :D If it is happening, WC will report it, so keep your eyes on our newsfeed next week

I would take a long look at a replacement for the 830. But not at the price Microsoft wanted for the 830. I wanted to replace my very old (but very good) 820 but could not find much of an upgrade in the 830 for the price. When they sprung the 640 I latched on to one right away. I am very happy with the 640 as it fixed the small dislikes I had with the 820 which was low battery life and small screen. The 640 is not really better than my old 820 except for those two issues. It would be nice to have a nice midrange like the 820 was to the 920. But the 640 will do untill then.

Many love the 830 for what it provides, but I've also seen many hate on it, because of just that and the pricing. Let's hope MS gets back to making midrange devices soon

I find myself going back and forth of if I am planning to get one or not. Anyone else? At this point, if it has a green shell, I just might go for it.

I know you must have your reasons; but why if you already have a 640 would you buy a 550. I really don't see it as a upgrade to the 640. But then maybe I am missing something.

If I was to buy one, it would be a backup phone most likely but it could be fun to play with. In fact, the only thing I don't like about the 640, is that there's no green.

Why green? :p Hulk?

Green is my favorite color. Since I have been into Lumia and I learned that they have color options, I have always wanted one with a green back. If my main phone can't have a green back, at least my secondary phone can....

There is a company callled kwmobile that makes cases for the 635 . I went to their web site and they are suppose to be comming out with a similar case for the 640. Now this is a snapon case that fits over the existing back cover of the 635/640 but they fit real well, and add very little to the bulk of the phone (I have several for my wifes backup 635) and they come in several colors including green. They are listed on Amazon (where I got the 635 version), but are not in stock yet; but are on the way according to Amazon.

My whole family are on Lumia 530's. I'll definitely be upgrading them to 550's if they announce them today, especially considering that the 530 won't get W10M. I'm hoping that Microsoft keeps the affordable Lumias going. They represent great value for money with exceptional performance that you don't find on android handsets.

Where else can you get a quad core handset for under $20?

Thanks, that's good to know but I would like for the actual Lumia back to be green and be used with a clear back for a case. I'll look into it though when it comes out.

My thoughts exactly. I am patiently waiting for a suitable replacement of my trusted 720. Also looking for a phone not bigger than 4.7 inches, LCD screen, 2000/2500 mAh battery, 1GB Ram, Glance and wireless charging. So hopefully something like a 750 will fit the bill, but a 950 mini is a good idea as well. Let's wait and see!

Microsoft Lumia 550 - Smartphones - Microsoft - Global
Looking at the specs, a 550 is most likely in my future! It looks like it would make a great phone, as secondary or even primary device, possibly. Glance, HD screen (which is the same size display as the 640, btw), 4G LTE, and all of that at 4.7 inches is insane. It doesn't seem like it would be a drastic downgrade to me, which is nice.

Anyone see a release date for the 550? I've seen December mentioned, but that seems to be for Europe.
Microsoft said December in their own presentation so I believe it will be then. Also, the 550 passed FCC testing too, so who knows it could be late November even.

It didn't happen in late November, so maybe in January or February, it will come out in the US officially. Either way, I got one from B&H Photo.
