Do updates decrease performance?

With Lumia 640XL, I jumped into the Windows phone bandwagon for the first time. I just love how everything is so smooth and fast. I am very much interested in Windows 10 coming to this phone, but I am a bit worried. Will I loose performance with the latest version of OS? In Android, you used to give away performance with each update for a little bit more functionality. I was wondering if it is the same.

Anyone with 640XL running Windows 10 beta builds, how is your experience so far?

The Insider previews of 10 right now are a terrible metric of performance since its all over the place.

Performance is still being improved and probably is sometimes taking a backseat to making sure the foundation is solid.

It really depends on what kind of update.

When updates come with new features and functionality, developers might miss a few bugs.

Usually a bug fixing update follows.

It's really up to the developer (actually their responsibility) to optimize their software.
