This is a bit of research I'm trying and I hope there are some photography enthusiasts out there

How many photos can you take on a single charge (say from 100% to 15%) Living images and rich capture off, most or all services off like cellular, wifi, bluetooth etc

There is a new blog on the devices blog which says Mr. Stephen was taking about 1000 photos a day using the lumia 950 and 950Xl. I find that hard to believe

https://blogs.windows.com/devices/2016/01/12/microsoft-x-nat-geo-tackling-the-largest-natural-wonder-with-least-equipment-ever/

Has anyone tried a photo expedition with either 950 or 950xl? For example, using my lumia 1020, the most I have been able was 280 photos of 5+38/34 JPEG with flight mode on and GPS on - battery down from 100 to 15%

I would think that things like power banks and recharging on the boat may have been used, but not necessarily put down on the bog post as unnecessary clutter to a bare bones article.

I suppose that it could make 1k photos with single charge if nothing else is draining the battery. If it is any use to you: I took 35min 1080p 60FPS video and lost about 40% battery.

What OS are you on? I was trying to record my kids performance a couple weeks ago and the phone stopped after about 3 mins saying it was overheating too much!! This was while on 10586.420

Sorry OP, I don't have answers for you, it's interesting question but it's not something I know much about. Maybe when I'm on vacation next week I'll take more pictures to see :)

I got my new 950 today, I bought it as soon as the price dropped to 50 % of the original price. I'm still on my first charge and busy upgrading to 420 right now. As soon as my battery gets in shape I might give it a try.

My 1020 is great, but I'm looking for a faster camera (among other things). People who praise the 1020 camera usually shoots nature pics, I want better point and shoot experience on moving objects. I remember trying to shoot people jumping in the ocean last summer, it all ended up with only water in the pics.. :/

Edit: Challenge accepted!

I just tested my 950 with 420, didn't have any issues recording 15 minutes of 1080 / 60 indoor with average temps.

Hoping it was just my day 1 phone going bad on me. I have a new 950XL now and went straight to redstone. After 1 week, I'm pretty happy with the biggest concern I had, battery and heating levels of the phone.

best way to test on how m,any photos it can take is to use proshot in timelapse option - flight mode on, gps off.

I too encountered the overheating issue at roughly above 3 mins recording sometimes in Mar. I can't remember which build was that, should be the threshold build (now on redstone).
I brought my son for outing on that day, reached the destination with roughly 71% batt left. Took some 150 photos, a few short videos (no turning off of wifi, background task etc, no battery saver), and whatsapp some photos that I've taken to my spouse before the turn off due to low batt. I swap out the batt with a spare batt and continue to shoot another 20-30 photos before we ended the tour.
Now on the redstone build, the battery life is better than before, should be able to achieve a better result than the above.

Soft reset, full charge, offline mode, BT, NFC, GPS off.

I took pictures using Proshot timelapse, 5 MP every 5 second. I choose this resolution because I wanted to compare with the same when using the 1020.

The Lumia 950 battery dropped from 100 % to 92 % after 100 shots.
I stopped after that, afraid of getting the pic burned into the new display.

Will try again with a higher resolution.

This is my second battery charge so I guess it could only get better..

When I think of it, checking remaining battery level after 100 shots is a better way to measure this than running it down to 0 or 15 %, anyone agree?

maybe run it for longer like 400 shots. but that is a really good rate. I have an extra reason to have the 950 now :)

I am more than pleased. The back doesn't creak at all, it doesn't get hot during charging (well exept for the first time when it still had 10586.11 and I did the first set up at the same time).

I'm sure that the 1020 will have more than 92 % left after 100 shots. It doesn't bother me tho, I never take that many pictures in a day anyway.

Well, sorry to disappoint you but the 1020 wasn't able to take that any shots on a single charge. I once did a timelapse with proshot, it did 360 photos while batter dropped from 90 to 15%. But it could have gone more if GPS was off

Lumia 950, 400 5 MP shots every 8 second. The battery dropped from 100 to 83 %.

Lumia 950, 100 19 MP shots every 8 second. The battery dropped from 82 to 72 %, a small difference compared to the lower resolution in the first test.

Lumia 1020, 100 5 MP shots every 8 second. The battery dropped from 100 to 92 %, just like the 950 in the first test.

I am pleasantly shocked. How did you do that on the 1020? I really wish I had my 1020 right now (curse that thief )
