Lumia 830 display blackouts

I purchased a used L830 and updated it via the Insider Program to build 10586.71. Everything runs fine but I noticed that the screen randomly turns black. At first the blackouts were miliseconds long, but over the past weeks, it became worse and now they do last up to 2 seconds. This does not depend on the active app, since it also happens on my homescreen.

Anyone had the same issues? I'm waiting for build .114 beeing released this week and will than perform a hardreset. Hope this will help and it's not a hardware issue.

Re: Lumia 830 display blackouts

I have the same issue with my L830 same OS-v as you. I also remeber having the same problem briefly with L920 but it disappeared with a software update in wp8. I think (hope) it's a software thing and it will probably get fixed with the "real" win10.

Re: Lumia 830 display blackouts

The issue affects all 830 users running W10M including the latest build. There is also a problem with screen tearing when scrolling at high speed.

A hard reset won't fix the issue, it's been present on the Lumia 830 since the initial W10M insider preview build.

I would assume that a firmware update will be needed in order to remedy the issue, which won't appear until W10M is officially released.

For now, your only option is to live with it, or use Windows Device Recovery Tool to revert to Windows Phone 8.1.

That's odd, what is the exact firmware version that you are using?

I never had the issue with WP8.1 and Denim, it only became an issue with W10M installed.

I had to downgrade from W10 to 8.1 in order to install Denim. Then I upgraded to a fresh install of W10. Now my phone just says Firmware Update Notifier 1.2.17.0

Go to 'Settings' then 'System', then 'About'. Your firmware revision number will be listed under the 'More info' button.

My firmware is: 02177.00000.15184.36007

02179.00000.15213.43037

At&t model 983

EDIT

Apparently there's a firmware 02179.00000.15455.24047 available on Windows Device Recovery. I don't have time to install now (especially if it hard resets my device like last time)

Here it is on AT&T's website. Doesn't look like it does much beyond add HD Voice.

And here are the details about upgrading without having to rollback.

Although, when I go through the steps and do a check for updates, it says no update available.

I've been painfully aware of the random, spontaneous blackouts on 830 devices for some time now, patiently waiting for just the right updates to Win 10 for them to be mitigated at the very least. I downloaded and installed the 02179.00000.15455.24047 firmware a while ago and it does little to fix things by itself (outside of slight improvemens to the consistency in behaviour of the panel lighting and the magnetometer/compass). I think the latest update to the OS - namely 10586.107 - MIGHT finally have made a big enough dent in the problem for it to be worth mentioning. Try it!
