Lumia 640 AT&T - Upgrade to 10.0

Hi, I'm using AT&T Lumia 640 unlocked with other carrier. The version it has is: 8.10.15148.160.. Is it possible to install win 10?

The AT&T version does not have WM10 yet. If you want to get it now then you will have to install windows insider >> get enrolled in slow ring >> download and install build 10586.107 >> again download and install build 10586.164.

but he said it's unlocked, so doesn't that make a difference?

No it does not.
Carrier unlocked ≠ factory unlocked.
Updates are dependent on the firmware running on the phone. Updates for a carrier variant firmware will always be controlled by the carrier regardless if the phone is unlocked or carrier locked. Updates for Country Variants (CV) firmware are controlled by the manufacturer, in this case Microsoft.

Since the AT&T Lumia 640 is running the AT&T firmware by default all updates are dependent on AT&T's approval. If the OP flashes the firmware to an unbranded CV ROM then he will get the official WM10 update right away.

Make sure you update from the Release Preview ring. The Fast and Slow rings will give you RedStone builds

I was just about to correct you on that one. ;)

Definitely use the "Release Ring" of the preview, because I was on the slow ring and got the RedStone build. I'm still trying to work through a few bugs that have given me fits getting things running properly.

.164 is an awesome build and I have found it to be more stable than the 8.1 update 2 that comes on the 640 stock.
