Mail and Calendar draining battery?

I got an update last week which enabled VMM, so that was good. But the battery life seems to be worse now, with the phone getting hot at times. Checking the battery usage, it looks like over 60% of the energy used in the background process for Mail & Calendar. Anyone else experiencing this?

check the frequency of syncing of mails and reduce. also disable it from background if you don't need it all that much

this only started after an update; previously there was no issue. Fortunately, it also seems to have cleared on its own.
