Windows 10 Mobile for Lumia 640XL on AT&T

Anybody had any luck with downloading W10M on your AT&T Lumia 640XL (not Insider)? I have family members clamoring me for an update and I have not seen any coverage recently on AT&T's status with this update (nor on T-Mobile's side). Hoping to start this thread in case a slow roll-out begins without much fanfare and it allows one of you to share that the update is on its way to devices.

I'm not holding my breath that AT&T will push the update. Windows insider is our best bet as of now.

I don't know why I don't feel like pinning it on AT&T for this one, it surprises Microsoft hasn't said anything about this considering the 640/640XL were probably the last set of devices with any sort of marketing push behind them.

I thought that Windows 10 Mobile was the update to finally break from carrier restrictions? Or, doe the Lumia's on AT&T get subjected to the draconian system of approvals from the evil empire?

They still have to approve the initial Windows 10 update. From there, all update are handled by Microsoft. However, bypassing the official upgrade path by Microsoft via the insider program further eliminates the middle man. Personally, I'm on the fence. My 635 backup runs 10586.318 very smoothly with no hiccups. I'm certain my 640 XL primary phone will be just fine. I still have nightmares when I was running 10166 on my old 925 and how horrible it was running. I guess I'll bite the bullet this weekend and see.

I would have my family members go down the Insiders Program path, but I'm not even doing that on my 950XL, so I don't know about subjecting them to the instability that I'm not even willing to deal with myself lol But I also wouldn't have recommended the 640XL to them had Microsoft not been prominent about their Win10 upgrade path.

The AT&T Lumia 640 has received the update (oddly enough...) but the 640XL has not... Anyone heard of any news on this front?

No word officially from AT&T however I went ahead and enrolled in the slow ring on 14367 & it runs flawlessly on my 640 XL. I didn't even have to do a hard reset. Battery life is the same as on 8.1. After 72 hours on it, I can officially say this build is perfect. Go for it you'll enjoy it. It will bring a breath of fresh air to your XL.
