I rolled my AT&T Lumia 640 back to 8.1 a few days ago, checked upgrade advisor and got the standard "lol nope" response.

I checked today and got this:

That's interesting. Hopefully someone else can confirm this? I already have official WM10 running on my AT&T debranded 640.

I had to run the update advisor again to get things started, but it appears to be downloading Windows 10 mobile now.

What is this about a "hard reset" that people have been talking about? Is this something that you have to do after you download the update?

pankaj981, Thank you.
I downloaded the update and couldn't get into just about anything. Store, calculator, settings. Used wdrt and started from scratch. Was working fine til it got stuck @88% on the .318 update.
Did a hard reset and everything is fine now, all up to date.
Really digging the official release.

It's recommended. Most users agree it smooths out the experience, especially when taking a major OS version advance.

Unfortunately the upgrade process is still pretty bad. You might end up with duplicate apps listed (like 2 phone apps) or blank app icons in the app list. I think the only way to clean it up is to do a reset, and then you'll have to reconfigure things again and possibly lose your app contents.

True enough.

On my 640 I did a reset after upgrade and no restore so I had to set everything up manually. On my 1520 I reset, but took a restore. My 640 has been running pretty smooth, my 1520 is waiting for a reset and no restore as I have an otherwise insoluble problem of the Phone App believing it is pinned to Start, but in fact being completely inaccessible there. I have to enter Phone from the All Apps list.

Funny thing is, the 1520 started with no issues and then developed the "missing Phone tile" after the Patch Tuesday update to 10586.242 and it persisted after the 10586.318 push. My 640 has been on Release Ring since before the 1520 got official and has taken more updates without having similar problems.

So I guess the lesson is Upgrade > Reset > NO Restore.

Just curious, for those of you did the hard reset, did you get some of the AT&T apps pined on the Start screen, like 8.1?
