What's the real camera pixels?

I have a Microsoft Lumia 640 LTE and it says it has 8MP on primary camera but as you can see in the screenshot, in the settings it says 6MP and it's greyed out.

You'll have to change the aspect ratio to 4:3 if you want the 8MP pictures.. by default it is on 16:9 which produces 6MP

PS: please don't create multiple threads on 1 issue.. Answers get scattered and this doesn't help anyone

Oh I see...going to test now to see if there are noticeable differences.

With the Lumia 950 XL, 16:9 gets 16 megapixels while 4:3 does 19.

Is this a reason to be considered false advertising?
Truth be told that if wasn't the update of the camera, I would never know about different pixels

The 8MP sensor is round... The 4:3 and 16:9 rectangles have to fit inside this so they must be smaller.

I think the main difference you will see outside of dimensions is that the 16:9 at lower resolution will not be as crisp and more pixelated at larger sizes (like when you zoom in) when compared with the 4:3. Regardless you will not see anything huge otherwise. This phone just doesn't come with premium lenses or exceptional sensor quality like you might find on flagship devices. But I will admit that Lumia phones offers among the best (perhaps the best) post processing camera software in smartphones.

Yeah now i use 4:3 ration on Lumia 550 and photo production is better but it doesn't fit with display.
