Painting the back cover w the Surface color

Not sure about the color, but I would try it with a paint, I think it's called plasti dip, because you can remove it easily if you don't like it.

Plastidip would scratch off easy. I wouldn't use it for that, especially if you are rough with your phone.

Have you experienced that? Plastidip is like vinil, people use it on their car's wheels and bumpers to protect them from scratches. I believe it could flake off, but scratch?

It's my first time to paint things like this. Had a little chip. I taped up the logo and buttons.

Within 24 hours paint started fading. Gues I need to put more coats. Anyone w painting experience have any advise about making the paint last?

yes, you need to put a clear coat to protect the paint and always do 2 passes...

EDIT: also I just noticed in your pic that you used a primer, and not paint... primer is just a base coat so the previous color doesn't show through and gives it a better luster finish of the color you painted ontop... you need proper paint to do a good job and clear coat so no peeling and a nice shine....

This is correct. I'd suggest another coat of primer, then follow the drying instructions before using the real stuff.

Thanks for the tips. I am not really looking for a nice shine. Just want to match the feel and color of the surface. The feel and color really approximates the Surface.

I'm interested to see how it works out. But I don't think Primer will stick anyway. Need to have actual paint over the primer.

Second attempt. Didn't go as smooth as I wanted. But had primer and paint this time.

Looks good! And in case it wears off, I might have a tip if you'd like.

My dad has his own paiting firm and from what I understand after asking him is that you have to roughen up the surface with 150 sandpaper, apply the primer and roughed it up with a 180 sandpaper, very lightly. Then paint it 1-2 times. Usually you finish it with clear coat so it doesn't fade. rough that up very lightly with 200+ and apply another coating. Best to go with a matte clear coat.

Personally I think metallic paint would look really good on it with matte clear coat as protection on top.

It's a awful lot of work to get it right and in all fairness I'm not sure if it will work on plastic that heats up, bends and stuff. It's probably going to crack eventually. But still, maybe you have some use for my tip. I think it looks great the way it is now!
