Blank/Black Screen?

My Brother's Lumia 640 AT&T Gophone suddenly has lost the display but the phone continues to work as in receiving calls/texts/emails. I've tried removing/reinstalling the battery and have tried soft resetting the phone 4-5 times. Is there a way to do a hard reset in its current state of not being able to view display information to access Settings to do a conventional hard reset?

That would be using the Windows Device Recovery Tool on a PC.

Now, I strongly suspect we're looking at hardware repair by this point though.

Thanks. I think it's probably FUBAR as I just tried running WDRT and it failed but will try one more time. Good thing I got him a few L640's at $30 each - he is very hard on phones and is down to his last one...

I appreciate you trying to help but the phone appears to be dead. I tried running the WDRT twice and it failed both times. I am in the process of activating his spare 640 and updating it to Windows 10.

Almost done. Win 10 update went fine. Tried using another of his beat up 640's to transfer his Contacts over using the Transfer my Data app but can't get the two phones to connect via Bluetooth so I guess I'll just have to do it manually.

Success! New 640 wasn't quite done applying various updates and after it finally finished, I was able to use TMD to move his contacts over.
