Hello folks.

I just got a new Lumia Icon. It has wp8.1 on it. What is the best way to get it to w10m? IS it possible to do? The Insider app is giving me a Server Error when I click "Get preview Builds" I had 10 on my 735 before it crashed.

Any help is appreciated!

Hello, first you need the application of the Upgrade Advisor store, this application "unlocks" the update to Windows 10.
Updates to Windows 10 are usually staggered, meaning that you will first receive a somewhat outdated version until the current one corresponding to the Lumia Icon.
My personal recommendation is to follow this tutorial
How to (2018 edition): Take the Lumia 930 to Creators Update and beyond

That allows the Lumia Icon to update to the last branch of Windows 10, and it shows more fluid in the opening of some applications.

Can you provide more info? Is that during the files being pushed to the phone or while the phone is being checked first?

That could be one of two things. First go to where the otc updater folder is and delete the packages folder then plug in the cable and check again...

Do NOT upgrade to W10M. I did it on my Lumia 930 (icon). It became laggy (snapdragon 800!!!) and unstable (FCU, 1709). W10M is a mess, a disaster. WP8.1 is a TRUE mobile OS. Oldy but goody !!!
I revert back to WP8.1. I'd just like to find the insigned XAP files of my favorites apps (for backup) and it will live for a LOONG time !

If you upgrade to 10 from 8.1, on any phone, then you should do a hard reset after, which is what I did on my Icon and it ran fine.

True. Though updating that far up the tree like they mentioned to 1709 might not go well for any Lumia dated prior to the x50 series. I know for one thing Geo fencing/GPS do not work on W10M for most if not all Lumias unless connected to internet on I believe all W10M versions...that is just one item that I recall, but there are many more qwerks and oddities all over the place for phones that upgraded...

Good point about 1709. I stopped at 1703 on mine and it seems to be fine but I only use it occassionaly for music on the go and to see how it's holding up. Like today, just fired it up to install the December update and everything I tried runs well: email, Groove, weather, etc.
