Not having Flash support on Xbox One is irrational.

Sorry, but when people are actively wondering "why the f***" something doesn't work, chances are you (as a supplier) 'blew it.' Having a great vision is fine... as long as the vision satisfies a need in an effective way without leaving the user without options (minus not using your product). Sure, iOS doesn't have Flash support, but it has streaming apps for practically every major television network out there. You're not going to miss out on your favourite shows (unless you entirely depend on the Methods Network). The Xbox One not having Flash when others (such as Smart TVs) do is ridiculous, it's a hindrance to the customer who actually bought into the idea that the X1 is their "ONE" entertainment solution. Just think about it (without overthinking it), this is a "come on, seriously?" issue.

It's not on Microsoft's neck to changing standards. Mobile and HTML5 has never been more ubiquitous or common (mobile outpacing PC market), but that has not yet resulted in mainstream content providers using those standards to let people stream catch-up episodes.

Microsoft boasts that the xbox one is an all round entertainment system, the fact that it doesn't support flash, that lets face it is used a lot, from simple web pages to browser games, is ridiculous.
All we heard from Microsoft was how the xbox one was the way of the future and how it will be all we need, an all-in-one machine, but in reality we need a pc to view flash sites and/or a hand held to use in conjunction with the xbox one.
I can't even get on UBISOFTs website because xbox don't support flash, but it supports the games we buy that ubisoft make, that we play on the xbox!
Maybe flash isn't supported because its more about being able to play free browser games and dl free tv programs, rather than paying through the nose getting them from Microsoft.
If you advertise that you can surf the web on the NEW xbox one then that's what you should be able to do, in its entirety, not just parts of it.
    An ALL-ROUND-ENTERTAINMENT-SYSTEM me thinks not!

This is NOT a Licensing issue, it is a cripple that Microsoft has added to thier game consols and phones in order to force developers of websites to develop apps specifically for windows devices and remove universal standards. They are intentionally making it difficult for web developers to support multible devices with standard web tools. All because of the war between Google's android and Microsoft's windows OS.. They also are intentionally forcing developers to move to thier monthly subscription model Azure, in the past we wrote asp or php scripts to launch default video players to stream video. The first thing Microsoft did was remove all support (even the 199 version) of windows media encoder (free and pro), and force all compilations to use Azure at 19.95 a month. (soreenson media has a replacement for static videos at 599$ but nothing for live).. They used to and still do to an extent support a direct link to an mpg or mp4 file but that exposes copyrighted content to being downloaded easily..

I've been streaming video through the internet since 1992, and this is the worse form of gorilla moves to sell software i have ever encountered. Microsoft and google are strong arming everyone into buying or falling behind. And the worst part is they developed little if any of the technology they are selling it was mostly developed and supported by users to users hard work. It sucks they can get away with this.

By "obscure foreign show" I assume you mean a show that is in the public domain or for which the copyright owner has given broad, express consent to copy, share, and freely distribute.

the last message here was from may, as of today i was still not able to stream from IE. i have all US EQ and now live in japan. i have a Hulu japan account i pay for but that the xbox one does not have an app for (only has it for the us one and so i need to go to it via IE to log in to watch it) and yet i am still getting the "download flash to play" so i try to do so and......... the system (xbox one,i also have a 360, roku and apple tv-all of which i cannot access from) tells me i cannot/am not allowed to download flash. honestly there appears to have been no 'fix' and the fact i am barred from downloaded it on my own albeit at my own risk considering all these comments of supposed security issues, is absolutely appalling. i paid a550 for the one and 400 for the 360. the same price of a computer tower only because it promised to be 'just like one' only be a game system as well for my son. this is beyond frustrating, disappointing and downright disgusting in regards to treatment of consumers. has anyone heard anything new as i have asked all the streaming services i pay for and subscribe to about the HTML5 transition and NONE of them have any plans even let alone a transition in progress to make this switch, flash is going to be around for a few more years at least so this 'no flash for you!' stance they have.... is ridiculous and anti-consumer.

So it's true then that Internet Explorer on Xbox One is crippled? But you claim it's the websites' fault, not Microsoft's? Those are all shows that have free streaming of their episodes online on PCs, so I don't get why they'd block them on one niche platform, especially because if you have a Smart TV you can go to those same websites with it's ****ty built-in browser and watch those shows. So what's the deal here?

Those were sites I just used to test it out. My wife watches obscure foreign shows that have no presence in the U.S. so they will never be on any Xbox app. As for the Hulu app, if you get the app can you watch some shows without a subscription? Or is the app totally worthless without one?
    It's probably so late for this, but there are ways around your problem. Alternatives not solutions. Yes internet explorer is crippled as you say. Yes it does not allow adobe flash but some safe alternatives to enjoying Xbox streaming are;

1: Download specific applications for streaming, I.e. foxtel play, hulu, Netflix, YouTube, TENPlay, ABC Iview etc etc

2: Test using mobile pages only, sometimes the site may compensate for the lack of mobile support and stream the video through simple means like HTML 5 etc etc

3: Pre-download your movies/shows. From prior experience with the Xbox 360 Arcade, .avi files will almost always play (I could be very wrong so test formats before trying) .mp4, .wmv etc etc.

4: Windows media centre. Proves to be useful but requires pre-download.

5: Side-loading, this method requires a modified consoles. If you have Xbox live and wish to keep it, Buy a JTAG console or a console compatible with the RGH (Reset Glitch Hack) also, for this method, create a fake Xbox account to avoid giving yourself the final hand of judgement (Microsoft BanHammer).

The truth hurts and its always better to buy a gaming PC to attach via HDMI to your "big T.v." its the only way to maximise personal experience, unfortunately you will require a wireless mouse and keyboard and one semi-decent PC.
To sum if up, gaming consoles should remain a gaming console and if you wish to make it a media centre, you better be prepared for company bull**** on this level :)
P.s. don't but Alienware or Apple! It is cheaper and better to custom build your own PC instead of paying proprietary companies to do the dirty work.
P.s.s. the best streaming site for ANY TV show is watchtvseries DOT se. (Cant post a link lol)
Ads are annoying but its the cost of free streaming. Also sites like KeepVid and CatchVid are amazing in capturing/converting files that are streaming. Copy the link and paste it then download it how you want it.
    Alternatively, thepirarebay lol

So get this, I can play YouTube on IE with Xbox 360, it doesn't say I need adobe. I stream any other videos, I need adobe. I think YouTube maybe HTML 5 now, anyways, mobile version of streaming site, need adobe. After much hesitant googling, you are best off using Windows Media Centre or pre-downloading a pirated copy (I don't condone this when Xbox have such brilliant paid TV services! -,-) and of course, the Latter of replacing your gaming console with a proper PC/TV setup (The way IBM foretold the not so distant future when they described having personal computers the size of whole rooms) but I digress with the current topic. Short answer no with a but, long answer yes with an if.

Unlike most of these single minded abusive/slandering/knowitallpcjunkies commenting on the subject. There is always a solution with computers and to those reading this, the Xbox 360/one is pretty much a computer and you couldn't convince me otherwise. The same with a smart phone or proprietary smart phone, if it has a processor, memory and acts like a computer, then news flash! It's a computer! It can be hacked like a computer, modified like a computer and used like a computer. So now comes the questions as to how adobe would work with an Xbox 360/Xbox One. Build it yourself! Obviously there is no relatable material on the subject so I'm sure if you have a knowledge of coding or someone you can hire, you can manipulate the I.E. all to run a homebrew plugin. If I can recover a deleted profile that was offline that I accidentally REFORMATTED using the Xbox, a USB and basic windows explorer to bring it back to life, you can surely get behind closed gates. I hope I helped and maybe I can help you code if you need, peace.

I don't understand why anyone would buy a Games Console and expect it to function exactly like their PC.

OK then, how do I get to the Windows 10 desktop on my Xbox One, how do I get a Keyboard and Mouse working on my Xbox One and how do I get the desktop version of Office to work on my Xbox One. That's right you can't as it isn't a computer, it's marketed and sold as what is it, a games console.

Going on your analogy even a dumb phone is a computer as it has a processor, memory and acts like a computer, so is a PSP, PSP Go, PSVita, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii and PS4!!!!

So I booted up Internet Explorer on my fancy new Xbox One and tried to watch some TV shows online only to discover that the Xbox One wouldn't play them. Most of the sites didn't give an error message, but a few said that "Internet Explorer in Xbox 360 cannot install Flash" or something like that (yes, it said 360 even though it's One). I tried going to the following sites to watch full episodes of some shows:
    1. Conan O'Brien Presents: Team Coco @ TeamCoco.com (Conan)
    2. South Park Studios | Kenny, Cartman, Stan & Kyle | Watch Full Episodes, Clips & More (South Park)
    3. CBS TV Network Primetime, Daytime, Late Night and Classic Television Shows (How I Met Your Mother)
    4. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart - Political Comedy - Fake News | Comedy Central (The Daily Show)
    5. Colbert Nation | The Colbert Report | Comedy Central (The Colbert Report)

None of them worked. Forgive me if this is common knowledge, but I never owned an Xbox 360. Can Internet Explorer on Xbox seriously not stream videos? Even Internet Explorer on my Surface RT can do that. My wife is not going to be happy. I told her she'd really enjoy Xbox One because it would enable her to stream all of her favorite shows on the big TV. I guess it's my fault for assuming that Internet Explorer on Xbox One wouldn't be stripped down, but also, WTF Microsoft? What is the point of Internet Explorer on Xbox if not to watch videos? People are going to surf the Web and check their email on a 50" HDTV? What kind of ONE box for everything is this?

Please tell me I am missing something and this functionality is there. Please.
You could buy a "MX PRO" and use the kodi app installed. All you have to do is plug it in to the HDMI in port, then go on to the TV app on the Xbox one. Turn on the "MX PRO" on and follow on screen instructions.

Hey, I have an XBox One and I use CouchTuner to watch my stuff online, and It works like a charm. Once you find the show you want to watch, they have few tabs to choose from. I've found that "allmyvideos" and "vidspot" are able to stream through the xbox one and they are fast too hope this helped.

PS. It only has TV shows. No movies.
