So i know my tv ir blaster is working because when i say Xbox on or turn off the tv turns on and off. But when i say volume up/down or mute, it registers my command but i don't see the volume changing and i can't hear it changing either. Has anyone else noticed that maybe some commands may not be supported by a supported tv?

Mine worked during the setup but when I tried it after it wouldn't worry. I figured I was probably saying it wrong but my xbox connects to my satellite box just fine.

Makes me wonder if the volume up and volume down commands are not TV commands but actually Audio Receiver commands. Which is my best guess on why it doesn't affect your volume on your TV. Not sure if you have a Audio Receiver setup so that might be your case.

Ok, so I set up my audio receiver and now volume up/down works on the receiver. Before I set it up, it didn't work with the TV. I wish there was more control over the IR support with the Xbox One :/ Also, does anyone have a solution that will allow me to use the DVR/TV without the receiver and games/movies with the receiver? It seems like a big waste of energy to leave my receiver on all the time when I'm watching the news on tv...

Is it possible to manually add commands for devices the Xbox One doesn't support?

I need to turn on my TV in order for Xbox on to work. I mean if the tv is off, Xbox on will still work, just not display it on the TV.

What kind of TV do you have? I have a Vizio and I sometimes have that issue. I will say XBox On and it will turn on the XBox, TV and receiver. However (so far it has only happened once) it won't actually display the image on the TV. The TV is getting a signal because the screen is pitch black instead of saying 'No signal.' I've only had it since yesterday so I imagine it will happen again...

Personally, I think it is the TV because there were several times with my XBox 360 that if I turned on the XBox first, then the TV that the image would not actually load up on the TV and I would have to shut the XBox off and back on for it to work. Hopefully they will add more advanced settings like letting me give an order to turn on devices, for example first have it turn on the TV, wait a few seconds then turn on the XBox and receiver.

I don't have a cable box connected to it. I have a regular, TCL 1080p TV. Not a Smart TV.

If you're just getting a black screen at times (not a 'no signal error' from your TV) I'd suggest using a different HDMI cable. I had that problem initially where the XBOX One was 'receiving' a signal from my DirecTV box, but no image was showing. I switched out the HDMI cable I had for the one that came with the XBOX One and *voila* works perfectly.

Might have to give that a try. Right now the HDMI cable I have is plugged in from the XBone to the receiver. Are you suggesting using that cable between the receiver and the TV?

In my case with my 360, it went 360 > receiver > TV. I would sometimes get the blank screen if the TV came on before the XBox (or maybe it was before the receiver.. )

Now I have Cable Box > XBone > receiver > TV basically the same setup I had with the 360 but the cable box is the caboose.

The TV had to be on most of the time before I fired up the 360/receiver or the picture wouldn't display. Like ncxcstud mentioned, I might try fiddling with the HDMI cables to see if that doesn't fix something....

All I have is the X1 connected to my TV via HDMI, and my xbox is plugged into the power supply.

I found that if you go to [settings>tv&one guide>troubleshooting>reset tv settings] this obviously resets your settings but once you set up your TV again the Xbox will control your volume commands again.
