I am looking to buy the Xbox and am confused between the Xbox One S and the Xbox One X. My requirements are

    1. 4K Netflix (Both S and X support this)
    2. Best possible gaming performance

For number 2, X is the clear winner, but my 4k TV only supports 30hz at 4k. I saw some Screenshots of the Xbox One X 4k like below which suggest that it supports 4K gaming only at 60Hz. Considering that

    1. Does Xbox One X not support gaming at 4K 30Hz?
    2. Is 1080p 60Hz more visually pleasing than 4k 30Hz while gaming?
    3. Considering the above, is there any advantage of getting the Xbox One X?

Note that I don't have any plans to change my TV in the near future or during the life cycle of these consoles.

If you're already using a 4k TV then the answer is clear. You're the target audience for the Xbox One X.
While your TV only supports 4k at 30hz, you will still see improvements in clarity.

I just don't think you will have the benefit of HDR.

    Between 4k/30fps and 1080p/60fps that's purely subjective.
Most gamers would prefer the 1080p/fps for the smoother gameplay.

Thanks for your quick answer. However, from the Screenshots I see on the Internet, seems the Xbox One cannot play 4K at 30Hz and in that case would fall back to 1080p. Any way I can get conformation on this? I don't want to buy the Xbox One X and then not able to play at 4K.

4K@30Hz isn't properly supported by many devices. If your display does not have HDMI 2.0 (which has 4K@60Hz), then you are not likely to get proper 4K at all.

Both Xbox One models require an HDMI 2.0 (or higher) display, for 4K.

If you want 4K content on your TV, you will be extremely limited in content because you don't have HDMI 2.0. Some PC graphics cards can do it, but that's about it. I don't think any 4K streaming devices can output 4K to displays using older HDMI.

In short, HDMI is really, really awful, when it comes to backwards and forwards compatibility.

Thanks both. My display is 4k but limited to 30hz. I can play 4k video fine using my connected NUC, but it looks like
    1. The Xbox needs 4k at 60Hz for games
    2. Can play video at 4k 24hz only if the display is 10-bit.

Considering the above and the fact that I don't plan on changing my TV anytime soon, I don't see the benefit of paying extra for the Xbox One X.
