I'm an AT&T user and the Fuze intrigues me. I will likely pick it up for the unsubsidized price of $500, but now I hear the X1 will debut on Nov. 28 for $800. Is the X1 worth the extra $300, or is the Fuze fairly comparable? I'm looking for opinions so please weigh in! :)

    Yo.

    some thoughts:

The X1 has a MUCH better screen, obviously, and better hardware overall, IMO. The Fuze does have a slightly better keyboard.

As for the OS, both have their own custom stuff (Panels vs. TouchFLO). IMO TouchFLO is a little nicer, but it's been a few months since I've played with Panels so my opinion on that may change. Panels certainly has more potential, but I'm worried about speed.

Basically I would recommend either device to a WinMo lover with no hesitation. If you're trying to choose between the two, well, right now I think that the X1 is a little better overall, but it's not for me to say if it's $300 better. If you can, I would suggest waiting until the X1 has been released and then wait for the head-to-heads to roll in.

I can't think of a Sony device with a bad screen so I would be shocked if the screen was anything but stellar (as far as image quality goes). I think the key will be how well a touch screen it will be.

Two things in my mind will separate the Fuze from the Xperia. Cost and Memory Sticks. I don't know if carriers can subsidize the cost enough to bring it down to earth and I hate memory sticks (it's a personal beef).

$300 is a lot of money for screen size, I'd go for the fuze and save the money for the next great "phone" that comes out.

    Hi Coppertop,
These two smartphones are very much in the same class. So the choices depend on personal taste. I have looked at both deeply and I'm going with Xperia. If you don't mind this is why:

First Xperia does not use the memory sticks you hate. It is MicroSD up 32 GB

The keyboard on the Fuze has an excellent bounce but the keys in the Xperia are a bit bigger, more spaced and desktop like layout.

As you said the screen is awesome it brings the aahh! in people, but with 800x480 resolution and 3" screen it's more than looks. It's more responsive to the touch also.

The construction is solid with unique attention to detail and beautiful metal construction. When you find a fine product you might be willing to pay more.

and if you add the gorgeous sleek looks, I know it's subjective but makes you feel a proud owner.

Fairly the Fuze has a couple of things Xperia doesn't TV-Out and accelerometer. I thought about that, very tempting... but I went for my gut feelings.

If you buy the Fuze at AT&T at full price you will get an unlocked branded device for $500. If you want it unbranded it will cost some $$ more. The Xperia right now in unbranded unlocked and if you look hard you might get it for a couple hundred less. (Sony Style stores offer you $75 family discount and $100 off if you get approved for a sony Credit Card)

So Xperia still may cost a bit more than the Fuze, but at this point the prices are close that decision is value not price.
