WPCentral Question

I think the last update was a major flop, some of the basic functions have disappeared (unless they are hidden so well I cant find them) in my Lumia 820. Most of these problems are Facebook issues, but wouldn't be an actual problem if the Facebook windows apps wasn't horrible and I would have no problems using it.

- Most of the facebook integration has gone, you use to be able to see your friends photos via the photo app saving the need to go through the facebook app.

-You cant see a contacts details without first having to dial them first, hang up, go back into your call list and pressing the person icon next to their name to see things like, send email, post to timeline or their actual phone number

-Calender and facebook calendar don't sync properly, I Facebook even still shows on my calendar and on my lock screen even after I click not attending. Before this update it would disappear completely.

-'Me' hub which is suppose to link to Facebook, does not show notifications anymore - handy when the windows facebook app is so slow. This makes it easier and less frustrating to see.

-Facebook messages use to come through as threads like an sms through the phone's messaging app, making it ultra quick to chat to someone on Facebook, now you are forced to use the Facebook app or messaging app, which I think is a waste of time as both are slow. This was good before because ALL your messages were in the one place.

-Sending 'smilies' restricts you to one at a time, everytime you select a smiley face to send in an sms it would return you back to the normal keyboard, so if you want to send multiple smilies, you need to navigate back to the smilie menu.

I think that is about it. Basic functionality that made the phone easier to use has gone, and is making me reconsider staying with windows phone.

re:

I have noticed many things too. One of the most common feature with this Cyan upgrade is threats to ditch WP all together. If only the new update to the firmware included positive charge to keep the fingers tapping on the phone and patience in the Software was included to wait for some developers to update apps accordingly we wouldnt have this issue.

It made it a lot easier to understand this update which brought nothing but pain with it. your brief pause to reconsider moving on is felt by all of us. Please stay strong and weather this storm with all of us.

Regards

REMEMBER: You are talking about Windows Phone 8.1.
Lumia Cyan is more under-the-hood with minor changes.

- Facebook integration was pulled because it was almost hopelessly outdated. The Facebook app can now hook into a Social Extensibility Framework, so it isn't a total loss now.

- The FB messaging was also outdated, and I imagine FB wanted it gone too. Sad to see it doesnt hook into Messaging, but still.

There is a setting under keyboard that turns off the setting to automatically change back after one emoticon/smiley.

re:

Personally I agree with the first person even though the smiley issue can be resolved in keyboard settings.

I switched from android to windows phone for a better camera and the everything in a single place feature of windows phone.
So, like he/she said instead of removing facebook from messaging, ms should have included an option to use all IMs in a single place.

Besides this, it was much easier to set even a profile photo in WP8.Now we've got to use a third party browser or even a PC to just change the profile picture.

As a positive point MS could have integrated all the features of its windows explorer into the files app and centralized all videos into the xbox video app be it from the phone camera, or from received files. And the biggest deficiency, a simple voice recorder is still a scarcity on WP.

Besides, MS integrated NOKIA into their own branding at least now the NOKIA users can get updates faster rather than waiting for a year after the release of the preview version.

Camera Yes
basic Phone yes
Apps No which I suppose app developers should be making and not MS> It is not only true that too many cooks spoil the broth but it is also true that too many broths by one cook at the same time will also ruin it. MS should stay out of the app business and get more developers on board and make it easier for them to publish apps.

Updates frustrating as it is for users (and I get frustrated trust me on this) Having it on DP and collecting all bug info and logs from user of different age groups and patterns will actually help MS to push a baked product into the market. About that one year wait and that I dont recall MS promising at anytime that they were going to release official update soon after DP. Sometimes they run into walls, understandable, like bitlocker issue but otherwise it is all good.

thoughts?

Agree with the second one. I want to know the contact number of my friend but firstly I need to dial first. If not then I need to open the contact through messaging. It is pretty troublesome.
