Why isn't my phone recognizing my Microsoft account password?

microsoft account requires attention

After 8.1 software update phone does not recognise Microsoft account password, I can however login via internet explorer using this password.

Sometime this happens if date and time on your phone are not correct.

Do you have multi-factor authentication turned on in your Microsoft account? If so, you previously had to use an app password to log into your phone. Now, your phone can accept your regular password with 2FA.

Check if the date and time on your phone is correct? If not, make it correct. That should fix it.
