I upgraded to 8.1 on my Lumia 822, how do I mute the ringer?

I upgraded to 8.1 on my Lumia 822 and do not know how to mute the ringer.

In the old system I tapped the icon...now when I tap it I get volume controls...is there a way to toggle between sound and mute like before???

To mute, simply press your volume rocker either up or down on the side of your phone. That will make your "Ringer + Notifications" level pop up on the top of your screen. Press the down arrow on the right side of that. Then you can toggle between sound and mute simply by tapping the bell icon on the left side of the volume scale.
