Do I need to format my SD card after getting a new phone as I have most of my apps installed on ?

I am switching from lumia 820 to luma 1520 and I have most of my apps and games installed on that sd card.

Not sure ... but the NU phone will lack pointers to the apps on the SDcard, thus they'll probably NOT be valid.

Better would be to move all apps to your (old) phone (from the SDcard) >> Backup >> then restore your Apps from backup.
IF, there are NO pictures, music, vids on the SDcard >> format the card in the NU phone - before signing in & taking the restore from backup.
IF you have media on the SDcard, don't format, it'll wipe the card - you can backup the media to a tablet / computer, then format
or bypass the format, completely.

BTW - if I could (format the SDcard) easily, I would - makes the data contiguous, slightly faster read / write speeds.
