Can you run Office 2007 on the Surface Pro 3?

I am thinking of getting the Surface Pro 3 to replace my Surface RT and I was wondering if Office 2007 (Microsoft Office and Student 2007) could be installed and run on the Surface Pro 3, as I don't really want to fork out ?109.99 on Office 2013. Furthermore, I don't know if I should get the i5 128gb or the 256gb version of the Surface.

If there are no compatibility issues with Office 2007 and Windows 8.1, then there's no reason why it shouldn't work.
I would go with the 256GB version if I were you. In the end it depends on how much you're planning to install on your device. Media aren't that much of an issue, as you can always use USB sticks and/or SD cards.
