Can I restore a failed backup?

Planning to install build 10080 on my 720, backing up fails at 99%, can I restore after rolling back to 8.1?

In previous post many times a back up from only 96% and upwards could be restored without a problem so you should be good.
Are you installing 10080 fresh so without the back up restore? Which is bye the way a good idea.

Anyhow there was also a post where the OP discovered that while he was on W10 his w8.1 backup was overwritten by W10. But in my case that did not happen so my old back up was kept but no idea why (his backup was over written and mine not)

It's possible that the restoration process would also fail at 99% - what happens after that is uncertain (the backup could work after all, but some 100% backups also fail to be restored). Better to make sure that the backup reaches 100% first before doing anything else, just to be sure.

So, you suggest me to hard reset my Lumia then install 10?
I'm planning to hard reset after installing

Tried backing up my stuff 2 times, none of them succeed

Restoring failed at 94%, most of my settings, all apps list, some customizations are back, my start screen wasn't restored
