How can I sign into my laptop if it has a black screen?

i ca not sign in to my laptop it just a black screen

I up dated my laptop I have window s 10 it was the same yesterday but got in but it will not do it any more

Happened to my wife's notebook a couple days ago. Just let it sit for a while and wait. My wife's notebook was applying an update without any visual indication of doing so. After like 10 minutes it displayed the login screen.
