Windows 10 taskbar not working properly

Hello

I have a problem with my taskbar (Windows 10). It does not "grey out" open applications. By that I mean that, althouth the icons of either of open applications appear in the taskbar when I open them, they are not "greyed out", showing that they are running. This results in me being unable to differentiate between applications that are open and applications that are closed but pinned to the taskbar.

Can anyone help?

On my PC it puts a line underneath running icons. Make sure your screen is visible fully on your monitor.
