Windows Central Question

Hi Support, I purchased laptop with Window 8.1 OS. in August free upgraded to Windows 10. Now i Formated laptop and tried to install windows 10 but am not able to active. Please help me how to Install windows 10.
Thank you

Are you getting a notification that Windows 10 is available for installation on your laptop? If so, what's the error that you're getting when you try to do the installation?

If you're not getting the notification, hang tight another day or so and see if it pops up. Make sure there aren't any other updates that you haven't installed yet.

Just to be clear…

It sounds like you never upgraded to 10? Just wiped your hard drive and tried to install 10. Is that right?

That's an issue. Not anyone can walk in off the street and claim 10 for free. You have to UPGRADE to it from a qualifying system.

Resolution:
  • Do a clean install of 8.1. Since you purchased a laptop with 8.1 preinstalled, your key for that is on a chip on the motherboard.
  • Get a copy of 8.1 here if you need it. You will of course need a functioning computer to do this.
  • 8.1 will read the key off your machine and install > accept the offer and upgrade to 10
  • Your 8.1 key will be converted to a cloud based authorization for 10 on that machine.
  • Your install should be pretty clean at this point, but if you want to you can NOW run a clean install with your 10 media and it will activate.
