The general wisdom is you don't work with sensitive stuff in public spaces since there's a risk someone can record your data

I always assumed that this was related to browsing in a browser on sites that require log in such as facebook, banks, email etc

However, does this also apply to the windows apps we use? Can someone see my emails if I use the outlook mail app? Or if my onedrive client is backing up my files?

Or if I'm updating my pc? Can the windows apps and services be secure on their own in public hotspots?

If I had to use public wifi, how can I make sure my pc is safe?

Thank you
