Why has Microsoft blocked use of Messenger on my win8 nokia 625 phone

Email from Facebook advised messenger would no longer work on my phone and I needed to update. OK, went to the microsoft link and discover the new software is only for win 10. Smells of sharp practice. I will change to android or iphone if I have to change my phone to use win 10 messenger.

If this situation is set in concrete I will have only one comment, which can wait until I get a response.

For whatever reason, Facebook has discontinued support for Messenger on WP 8.1 and below. As your phone does not support Windows 10 Mobile either, your options are using the web interface or buying a phone with a supported OS.

It may be time to either purchase a Windows 10 phone or you have to use Facebook using the Edge browser on your current device.
