Windows Central Question

Ok, on my mom's laptop she got a virus or got hacked or something. It is running windows 10. So, every time it is turned on it runs windows defenders, then asks for a password, then it runs windows defenders again, then all that happens again and again and again ( according to my mom ) sooo can anyone help because it's unusable.

Do a clean install. Reboot that machine with a bootable usb key with Windows 10 on it. When the installer loads, delete all the partitions and then when it shows unallocated space choose install. As long as you upgraded to win 10 or purchased with win 10 do not enter a product key when asked. The digital key will install.

I'm assuming you know what a clean install is and you know how to boot win 10 from a usb key. If not...google clean install. And download the Windows 10 media creation tool.

When you say it asks for a password, you mean the computer restarts and asks you to log in again?

You may need to do a fresh reset on the PC to recover it. But before you do that - Try downloading Malwayrebytes to see if it's able to help you out.

I support the download of Malwarebytes. It's a great program and I have used it for a few years now. Learned about it from MS Support.
