It could actually be defective hardware. Which would be why they are pointing you to an exchange.
I can think of 3 options (assuming you already have the latest driver/firmware):
1 - Uninstall and reinstall the trackpad.
2 - Perform a full reset on the device.
3 - Exchange the device.
Are you connecting your local account to a Microsoft account or creating additional users as Microsoft accounts?
Ensure your date/time are correct as well.

Not sure about the auto-rotate but have you tried doing a hard reset by holding down the power button for 10 seconds?
I always had good luck with Plantronics Bluetooth headsets in the past, but it's been awhile. I use my Jaybird Bluebuds X now. Sound quality and battery life is decent and I can prompt Cortana through the voice activation feature on the in-line controls!

Some people experience lower battery life and random restarts (among other bugs). You're upgrading to software that is still in development so it's the price to pay for getting the fun new stuff early!

You can try plugging your Xbox into another TV and lowering the output resolution from HDMI. It's possible that it was manually set to a resolution (besides Auto) and your HDMI converter doesn't support it.

I could be wrong but it's probably the BT4.0LE disconnecting since it doesn't need to be connected at that moment. If you tried to do something like tether or transfer data it should...
It's one-handed mode. Designed for larger devices but available on all of them. That way you don't have to do that weird juggling thing to pull down notification center or access something on top half of the screen.
Have you tried calling a Microsoft Store in your area (your profile says Mass and I know there are 2 in the Boston area) and speaking to a manager? Calmly let them know your concerns and see if there is any advice they can give or anything they can do.
