I have a love affair with my Red 1520, its been pretty well flawless, I'm hoping 8.1 does not mess it up. I came from a Nokia Lumia 900 cyan and this is where the love affair started.

seems to be going down a little faster, and it doesn't sync well with how much charge% when charging anymore. maybe that is the app. not sure yet.

I have a red lumia 1520 with a black case from Ace Above on Amazon, plus I have a Red case with black strap both are nice but the black case is slimmer, and the sides are open an makes the buttons easy to get at. plus it shows of the red, but still protects the phone.

maybe its from rings that you wear on your finger, when trying to stretch to hit certain areas on the screen, your ring hits the sides of the screen. just an idea, I know you got yours just a few days before I bought mine, I was reading your messages cause you were waiting for fedex to deliver...
