Received Demo Unit - Please help!

A friend of my husbands works at Nokia and sent me a Nokia Lumia 920. Turns out I was sent a retail demo unit. I have tried everything I can think of to flash a new ROM to it. When I am in Phoenix it fins the USB connection but not the actual product. Does anyone have any advice? I would rather not have to contact the friend because I don't want them to go any further out of their way.
