Appalled at how shockingly bad Windows Phone and or its apps are.

Hi, Tiles are not widgets. WP isn't Android. If you get those basics, you'll find it's a fine OS. Just not iOS, or Android.

    Stylus Use On Surface RT

It's not designed for inking, so it does an average to poor job of it.

    RT still slow wifi speeds

Resurrecting this OLD thread. On 8.1 preview, I am now hitting high 6/low 7MB/sec copy speeds, which is closer to the upper end of the 2.4ghz speed range. So it looks like they tweaked the drivers a tad.

how is the 920 holding up against his cousins

it's doing pretty well. Most of the key app gaps are closed, the hardware seems to finally be stable (my second unit, first had dust/ffcamera & sensor fail) and it's no worse for wear and tear. It will hold up until the next wave of devices next year.

Another Doom & Gloom article about WP8

Nokia is doing better, and shipping more phones year over year. I'm happy about that.

    Gps

Actually per that source, GPS should be fine in flight mode. If you are doing a cold start GPS fix in flight mode (ie, it's not had a fix in your current location and you've moved significantly since your last fix) it can take upwards of 5 minutes to get a gps fix. Not always, but that's a worse...

Outlook RT & Corporate Exchange Integration

Getting it to work with office365 hosted exchange was a wee twitchy for me, but I got it there eventually. Not much help but keep trying :)

8.1 Pro and RT: Battery life changes?

You should see no more than 0.5%/hour drain, or 8 days of doing nothing to go from full charge to totally flat. That's bad, but it is what it is, and is the expected behavior - I'm sure they would love to have 30 day standby times like the iPad, but I don't know if that's a goal. On 8.1 (at...

How to improve lumia 920 image quality significant

His point is this isn't improving the Lumia 920's image quality. It's just massaging the bits. The image quality is what comes out of the camera. Post processing isn't. The best bet for improving image quality in the 920 is to not use Auto. Force a low ISO in brightly lit settings to cut down...

Push Notifications Limit - How to check which apps that use push notifications?

According to Windows Phone 8: Tiles, Lock Screen, and Notifications | Build 2012 | Channel 9 the 30 app notification limit is gone in WP8, although the developer documentation on MSDN still mentions it. If you're not getting Tile updates for pinned tiles, the usual workaround to force the app...

HTC 8X - 6 months since purchase, worst phone I've owned.

It's amazing how similar this thread is to numerous threads over on the Nokia 920 forum, expressing the opposite desire :) I've owned my fair share of HTC devices (most recently the HTC Titan, running WinPhone 7.5 - prior to that several WinMobile 6x versions) and I have found that HTC build...

8X, Wireless Emergency Alerts (ie, Amber Alerts) Setting available for AT&T?

Sigh. Yes, they do. I'm active in the AT&T forums, and there is an 8X owner who is getting the alerts (not SMS based) and AT&T has rolled out support for WEA - but apparently their version of the 8x rom image lacks the settings options under Messaging. I was hoping someone here had an AT&T 8x...

8.1 Preview - Tegra 3 battery saver core enabled?

Battery life is unchanged for me, so I would suspect not in this version of the preview. That doesn't mean it's not going to be enabled (or that it is - I haven't heard any rumors either way)

8X, Wireless Emergency Alerts (ie, Amber Alerts) Setting available for AT&T?

I'm trying to track down any info, and was just trying to verify that the option isn't available on the AT&T version of the 8x - it should be there (as it is on the VZ and other roms) but I don't have an 8x to check on AT&T.

how to retrieve videos from dead lumia 920?? please helpppp

Why don't people copy stuff off their phones that is so important? Why? WHY??? If your phone is dead, it's dead. You could try various hardware horrors to remove the chips with the videos, but unless they are IMPOSSIBLE to not have, the cost is probably not worth it. If you are in the category...

Can't find a good handwritten note taking app. Suggestions?

The iPad appears to have a higher resolution grid of touch sensors, which gives it smoother inking ability. The RT's touch hardware was designed primarily for touching UI elements, because the OS supports dual touch (active pen and capacitive) and the active digitizer is WAY more accurate for...

8X, Wireless Emergency Alerts (ie, Amber Alerts) Setting available for AT&T?

So apparently the X8 supports the new WEA standard, and on AT&T and VZ you will get all alerts for your area unless you opt out. Opting out is via a setting in Messages, at least on VZ: Wireless Emergency Alerts - Windows Phone 8X by HTC I don't have this device but someone on AT&T is hoping...

Can't find a good handwritten note taking app. Suggestions?

Without a doubt the digitizer on the RT is designed for 10 point touch, not inking. I have the RT and an HP Elitebook Revolve 810 (with a pen digitizer) and the HP is quite good at taking ink notes (with the pen) while the RT isn't very good at all, even using the same app. Note Anytime did...
