Doesn't anybody feel that having the ability to pin tiles on the desktop might be a good idea. Just like how widgets were on windows 7. this can blur the boundary between modern and classic interface.

Didn't start screen already replaced desktop? You can pin apps, folder, shortcut, anything desktop is able to, plus, live tile on start screen.

I really don't understand this request at all. If you want something that feels like "Live Tiles pinned to the Desktop", simply configure your machine to use the full screen start menu instead of the desktop. Other wise, just click the Start button to view your Live Tiles in your smaller Start Menu if you want to glance at them.

I said something similar, which is just to not have a desktop and to have start be the desktop. Which isn't quite the same as using full screen.

However, everyone seemed to rip me apart and not understand what my vision was.

Not quite, especially if you don't want tablet mode.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this at some point in the future.

Can you elaborate more about the difference? I'm interested with the idea that the old desktop need to get replaced, and the closest I get is full screen Start.

I keep an empty desktop. So to me it's just a canvas for running applications. The desktop I think has been a "skeuomorphismed" concept that has just become accepted practice on PCs.

I'd like to see a full screen start be the default when there are no foreground apps. The smaller version could still be there with foreground apps running. It would be similar to how the phone and xbox function. The effect would be to always present you with something useful, reduce clicks and eliminate some redundant functionality.

At the risk of irritating ttsoldier It's just a concept. Not really sure if I'd like that in everyday use or not. I think it would be more likely that we would see live tiles directly on the desktop at some point in the future.
