Back-tracking question

I own windows 8.1 and Windows 7. I upgraded to 10 from 8.1. Now my question is can I go back to 7 then keep 10 (naturally i'd loose 8.1) then try 10 again in a few years time once a few of the issues have been fixed, and not need to pay for it?
