Why doesn't my Windows 10 mail download folders from outside IMAP accounts including gmail?

Windows 10 mail does not download folders from outside IMAP accounts including gmail.

I just switched to the new mail app mostly because i want calendar, contacts and email shared across multiple computers and devices. Calendar and contacts seems to be shared fine but I have a cableone.net email and a gmail account. My new mail downloads fine but older mail and none of my folders in outside accounts show up. I have played with the sync settings...started at one week and moved out from there but old mail and folders do not download.
Please help!

You have to make the folders favourites before they will sync automatically, a bit of a faff.

IMAP accounts store the email on the server and aren't downloaded to your machine. POP3 downloads the emails to you local client. I have POP3 and I say don't delete emails so i get the same emails on every amchine I have that account setup on.
