when i made the microsoft account i chose to use my email not make a hotmail or live mail that was several years ago now when i got this windows phone to save the numbers of contacts it says its savin them in hotmail did it realy open a hotmail account do i now have an email@hotmail if yes how can i close it delete it?

Hotmail = Microsoft account for all intents and purposes here.

I don't know for sure if email and people, etc. is tied together or not, but if you check out outlook.com (upper right hand arrow brings down a menu once logged in) and login with your MS account, you can poke around there. Just ignore the email section if you do have one, probably easiest that way.

Pretty sure you can change to sync your contacts to another source such as Google.
