and try googling (or should I say binging?) for 'tileartguy'. he has been doing this for a while... bit in a more harder way.. it's all now pretty easy now with this app. This app just helps you add transparent png images as tiles to your start screen so that they appear to float over the background.. its a pretty cool thing if you do it with a little creativity..

So all this really does is allow you to have a pretty grid of tiles that does nothing?!

just try it out before you judge. try searching for TileArtGuy, he has some awesome samples on his blog

I can put the picture on my start screen but it's just the picture broken up in tiles. I don't understand how you get it so all your tiles go over it.

Great idea dude. A starry space background with Interstellar Tile Art.
The Tile Arts acts like stickers or decals. Next advancement i hope it would provide a way to launch app.
We've seen this with all other start screen apps. The icons in apps pinned, act this way too.

Are you guys not bothered by those spacer tiles which are not doing anything but only displaying static images? I don't mind if we can associate apps to those static tiles, but we can't. Unless you have only a small handful of apps and related pinned tiles, otherwise those static spacer tiles are really taking up valuable screen spaces.

I can put the picture on my start screen but it's just the picture broken up in tiles. I don't understand how you get it so all your tiles go over it.

you should use images with the .png files which have transparency in them. then you can see the start background through the transparent areas in the tiles

those "static images" give you a cool start screen... don't you think its worth allotting space for?

there are other apps that can do this but you'll have to split and save your pngs manually (using photoshop .etc).. its not going to be a smooth ride but it can be done. and as to which apps to use, I'm not sure, most of the free ones I tried either didn't support png or couldn't scale the image to the full size of the tile and left some border. I haven't yet tried out any paid ones tho

Basically the App just pins dead tiles with images.... it is pretty simple and easy to use for novices.

However if your looking for more functionality, best use something like skinery themes.

With the is you can pin blank transparent tiles (make sure colour is set to accent colour) or with images and associate functionality like dial a number, launch a webpage. Heck you can even make a animated tile and breath some movement to your start screen.

So combined with an app that has cropping abilities, the possibilities are endless .
