Right now I'd love to blow away some prior conversations, especially those polluted with images, videos, etc.; but, I want to make an archive of everything before doing so.
Now, Provided the MS utility that creates a backup of your SMS and MMS messages, in the form of a XML files, I'm in the process of developing a desktop app that will parse the XML files thus creating local copies of the messages and their attachments. FYI: I was still able to create the backups even though the app says an SD card is required. I was in fact able to export them to the local file system on the phone. Obviously, this will help with saving space and hopefully it'll make the messaging app run a bit more efficiently on W10M. I think it would also be nice for those who want to transition to another platform but want to keep an archive of their old messages.
I'm just curious, but is this an app that others here would find useful?
